Discovery Museum's All-Access Evening

This amazing adaptive event on June 17th is FREE with pre-registration.

Summer is almost here, and you're building your list of inclusive activities for the family. The Discovery Museum in Acton, Massachusetts is a great addition! It's a super-fun, nature-centered gem for people of all abilities to learn about science.

Say you've never been there and want to check it out--on Saturday, June 17th from 5pm to 8pm they're holding a FREE event for families with children with disabilities. You and the kids can come and explore the Museum and its neighboring Discovery Woods at a pace that's just right for everyone. See the link at the end of this post to register.

Their exhibits are designed to be accessible to all, and their limited capacity on these evenings assures a calm atmosphere. There's no age limit on the fun you could have, so bring your sense of play and adventure!

Here's a quick run-down of what to expect on Saturday.

Climb into the giant Discovery Treehouse 

It's a 550-square-foot structure 15 feet off the ground with activity nooks a-plenty. They've got a Live-Edge Table where they have revolving activities like curiosity cabinets, live specimens, and an art-making space. In the Building and Design Zone, you can study the structure of the Treehouse and make your own construction. In Observation Corner, the large windows allow for weather prediction and nature-gazing. In the Book and Puzzle Nook, you can peruse publications and work on a puzzle on comfy cushions.

Investigate Discovery Woods Nature Playscape Explore Owl Hollow--A giant interactive owl sculpture made out of bamboo and zip-ties. Check out Discovery Garden's flowers and veggies where touching is allowed. When they say all-access, they mean it!You can also take a break on the Log Couch made from a ginormous white oak tree. Meanwhile, examine Birdhouse Village to see where fliers make their nests. While you're there, sky-gaze on the Nest Swing with a friend or two, and observe the pollinator-friendly natural filter-system of the Rain Garden.

Dine with family and maybe some new-found friends Additionally, dinner will be served with a gluten-free option! ASL language facilitators, noise reducing headphones, and a sensory guide to the Museum are available upon request.Please note the event will be outdoors unless it rains.
